A Hybrid Reconstruction Method for Quantitative PAT
نویسندگان
چکیده
The objective of quantitative photoacoustic tomography (qPAT) is to reconstruct the diffusion and absorption properties of a medium from data of absorbed energy distribution inside the medium. Mathematically, qPAT can be formulated as an inverse coefficient problem for the diffusion equation. Past research showed that if the boundary values of the coefficients are known, then the interior values of the coefficients can be uniquely and stably reconstructed with two well-chosen data sets. We propose a hybrid numerical reconstruction procedure for qPAT that uses both interior energy data and boundary current data, which is usually available in diffuse optical tomography. We show that these data allow the unique reconstruction of the boundary and interior values of the coefficients. The numerical implementation is based on reformulating the inverse coefficient problem as a nonlinear optimization problem. An explicit reconstruction scheme is utilized to eliminate the unknown coefficients inside the medium so that we only need to minimize over the boundary values, which significantly fewer degrees of freedom. Numerical simulations with synthetic data are presented to validate the method.

Photoacoustic tomography (PAT) is a hybrid imaging modality where we intend to reconstruct optical properties of heterogeneous media from measured ultrasound signals generated by the photoacoustic effect. In recent years, there have been considerable interests in using PAT to image two-photon absorption, in addition to the usual single-photon absorption, inside diffusive media. We present a mat...
متن کاملMulti-source quantitative PAT in diffusive regime
Photoacoustic tomography (PAT) is a novel hybrid medical imaging technique that aims to combine the large contrast of optical coefficients with the high resolution capabilities of ultrasound. We assume that the first step of PAT, namely the reconstruction of a map of absorbed radiation from ultrasound boundary measurement, has been done. We focus on quantitative photoacoustic tomography (QPAT),...

This study describes a hybrid technique for identification of buried objects. The objects shape and electromagnetic profile are reconstructed from evaluations of electrical permittivity and conductivity. The method suggests a combination of linear sampling and optimization. Linear sampling method (LSM) is used to recover shape and metaheuristic optimizations essential to reconstruct the inside...
متن کاملEfficient regularization with wavelet sparsity constraints in photoacoustic tomography
In this paper, we consider the reconstruction problem of photoacoustic tomography (PAT) with a flat observation surface. We develop a direct reconstruction method that employs regularization with wavelet sparsity constraints. To that end, we derive a wavelet-vaguelette decomposition (WVD) for the PAT forward operator and a corresponding explicit reconstruction formula in the case of exact data....
